The Romania Liga 1 isn’t Europe’s most glamorous league, but it has developed some of the game’s most technical players. “The King”, Gheorghe Hagi, played in Romania for many years, before playing in some of Europe’s biggest leagues, becoming one of the biggest stars in the soccer world. To this day Hagi is on the back of many jerseys around the world. The Romanian play maker is a hero over there and was a star at the 1994 World Cup. He also developed the reputation of Turkish football, as David Beckham has recently done with the MLS. He is an important figurehead for European soccer, and without the Romania Liga 1, the game we know and love wouldn’t be the same today. With teams such as Astra Giurgiu and Petrolul Ploiesti at the top, it’s always an entertaining league to watch.
